Financial Issues of Joint Replacement

Contact your health insurance provider to find out if there are regulations you need to know about. For instance, some providers require that you get a second opinion before proceeding with joint replacement surgery. If you are under a managed care plan, there may be additional restrictions. Find out exactly what is covered and what your deductible will be. Ask specific questions, such as:

  • Will physical or occupational therapy or home health care after joint replacement surgery be covered by my plan? For how long?
  • Will in-hospital rehabilitation be covered?
  • Will any equipment or home modifications be covered?
  • Will follow-up visits with my physician be covered?
