Herb Teas: Overcoming the Effects of Overeating
By the editors of Mothernature.com News

During the holidays a little overindulgence is par for the course. Those who are wise enough to know their own weakness will keep some herbal helpers on hand. These traditional herbal teas are top contenders when you’ve stuffed yourself a bit too full.

Chamomile tea is calming to the belly as well as the brain, as it relieves irritated digestive tracts, and promotes normal digestion.
Peppermint tea is the premier folk antidote to indigestion. It promotes burping, which is elimination of gas via the esophagus, and relaxes intestinal muscles.
Barberry and Oregon grape contain bitter compounds that stimulate digestive function and reduce smooth muscle spasms.
Yarrow tea is a venerated folk remedy for indigestion. Like the other teas, reviewed, it reduces smooth muscle spasms. If your problem is excess acid, try taking an antacid or one-quarter teaspoon baking soda in a little water.

If your problem is slow digestion, see a qualified practitioner about being tested for insufficient stomach acid production. You may need to take betaine HCl with meals.
